Saffron & Darren. 100 Club, London.
Saffron Sprackling the lead singer of Republica performed an impacting debut acoustic set here in the city. Hosted by the iconic rock’n’roll venue the 100 club in London’s West End. Accompanied by the talented and very rock’n’roll Darren Beale, guitarist for Bob Geldof and The Boomtown Rats.Mel Sanson joined the stage to do backing vocals too. On arrival I made it in time to catch up with the guys for sound check. Loving the atmosphere it was good to be back at this gorgeous venue.
Saffron and Darren totally smashed it! Saffron’s stunning and grounded rock royalty presence and powerful vocals totally owned the stage. It was really a treat to hear the songs we love done in this way. Such a powerful voice, the tambourine, and guitar. We later learned that Darren did that whole set with a cracked rib!! So funny. A really strong duo, Sprackling & Beale…! Republica fans packed out the venue with their unfailing adoration and commitment, loving every second calling out for more, more, more. They played some great covers on request from the 100 Club. You rock darling! We loved it. Back stage after the gig I found a very excited Saffron holding an original copy of SAFC 24-7 Magazine given to her by Kerrie Moorhead. Front page images of 1990’s Republica with “Ready To Go”. Pic below. Very cool gift Kerrie! Where did you find it!?
We also did a little photoshoot back stage where the walls are covered floor to ceiling in signatures from all the bands that have ever played there before. The photoshoot was for my photographic exhibition. Rock’N’Roll December. An exclusive unseen fine art photography collection using mixed media silk screening. Diamond Dust. The images will be on display at London’s Putney Pies / Putney Vaults throughout all of December 2015, 2 Putney High St, SW15 1SL.
The night was also hosting Tim Muddiman and The Strange and was headlined by famous 80’s legends “Fuzz Box”. A great set by these gorgeous girls! I will post the Fuzz Box images separately as both gigs were so individual in their own right.
As I left the gig and walked out onto the bustle of Oxford Street, I checked my phone and learned of the terrible tragedy in Paris as a friend of mine was messaging me trying to contain his shock and pain at losing some of his friends in the shootings. An event that has impacted us all in so many dimensions. I hope that time heals the pain. The world is changing. This event has woken many people up to the fact that war is very much alive. Some have always been aware, but for others, it was a wake up call. I am baffled and unable to understand how people in this world can have the desire to cause such planned and horrific destruction to others. In this industry we stand together for peace, honour, love and unity through rock’n’roll, and that is what we will continue to do. No matter what.
Saffron and Darren, thank you, we are definitely “Ready To Go!!”….
