ZIK’R by Karen Ruimy & Youth

ZIK’R by Karen Ruimy & Youth

When music and dance blow the dimensions apart and you find there is no use for words because the passion and the expression, the emotion and the rhythm simply takes over and takes you into a zone where nothing can touch you, nothing can break you, nothing can distract you. ZIK’R, a show that moves the boundaries through music. “A mystical path from India to Seville”. The attention to detail of a simple flick of a hand, the stamp of a foot, the beat of the drum, when the music fills your inner being and fuels the drive to dance, you are the leader, the instruments follow you, the drum beat follows you, because you are the music, you are the beat, you are in the flow of what life speaks past all understanding. Words become an addition to the sound that is being created rather than the focus of the story, because the movement of the body and the dance and the music is screaming at you through it’s message. The voices and the chords that the singers and the musicians delivered smashed through the walls bringing a level of consciousness to the auditorium that was such a strength and from the heart. With classic Spanish culture, there was this added element, one that you only get when you’re in the company of this particular gentleman, Martin Glover, otherwise known as Youth. That Glover kick stirs to the core. In one particular song I simply could not sit down! I had to stand up, and was so glad that I had my camera in my had as my excuse. I learned after the show that a couple of girls also leapt from their seats and had launched into dance as the music just carried them into this place, a place where thoughts are not needed, you just glide in the present. The show featured at The Peacock Theatre in Holborn for 5 nights only. Tonight is the final performance, Saturday 18th June 2016. Congratulations and thank you to Karen Ruimy and Youth on giving us all such a stunning visual and harmonious display. The dancers, the singers, the orchestra…

You will be able to see some more from this talented duo in Spain at Puretone Resonate Festival, on a mountain, full moon, in September. Here is the link: http://www.puretonefestival.com
