The Orb 25th Anniversary
Friday 29th July at the Electric, Brixton The Orb celebrated their 25th anniversary by performing their album Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld. The venue sold out. Alex Paterson and what is one of the best electronica collectives on the planet, performed a brilliant set. So many interesting visuals with each track, they really took us all on a journey from start to finish. Youth performing on bass and double bass. A very welcome surprise as special guest Gaudi joined The Orb on stage having flown in only a few hours earlier from his gig in Croatia. Nothing could have prepared us for what happened next. Gaudi on the theremin next to Alex and Thomas, created something unique and more importantly, highlighted the unbeatable talent that these guys have creating the music that they bring to the table. The sound, the vibe, the letting go, the ability to allow the music to take the flow with a flawless synchronicity. As Gaudi started to crank the sounds, the crowd just loving every second while he practically threw the sound waves into the air, Alex Paterson couldn’t control the smile on his face as he stood back and gestured to Gaudi and Thomas Fehlmann, embracing the moment and marking his respect to his team. Joined on stage by the full gang, the cock crowed and the sound continued on into “Little Fluffy Clouds”. The best rendition of that track I’ve ever heard. Yes, they well and truly smashed it! As the heat rose, it was seriously boiling in there! The crowd refusing to let them go launching full throttle into every second, and an encore that totally blew the roof off, the smiles and the energy…Thank you guys!
